Stars Drop Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City has its work cut out for itself after an opening loss to British Columbia, 2-1, on Monday.

The Stars have to win four consecutive games, starting with a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday against Williams Baptist or Blue Mountain Christian. WBU and BMCU meet in a 1 p.m. elimination game.

UBC, which went 2-0 on the day, plays the 4 p.m. game against Grand View with that winner headed to the finals.

Thunderbird pitcher Carleen Murray, who struck out 15 batters in UBC's win over Williams Baptist, held the Stars scoreless until the top of the seventh.

Analise Rayburn started the seventh with a single and moved over to third when Gabby Moreno's bunt attempt was misplayed. Rayburn scored on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Phares but the Star left the tying run on third.

OCU had three hits – all singles.

Brynlee Alsip allowed one earned run in her complete game to take the loss.
