Stars Advance with 1-0 Victory

OKLAHOMA CITY – Brynlee Alsip, backed by some sterling defensive plays, tossed a one-hit shutout to keep Oklahoma City moving forward in the NAIA Opening Round with a 1-0 win over Blue Mountain Christian on Tuesday.

Tara Hoehner ripped a hard shot to third base and after a diving stop by Kelsey Camp, Camp made an errant throw that put Hoehner at second base to start the fourth inning. Hoehner moved to third on a groundout by Analise Rayburn and scored on an RBI single through the left side by Peyton Barrow.

That was the only run the Stars needed as Alsip limited the Toppers to a fifth-inning double.

BMCU had an opportunity to answer OCU's run in the bottom of the fourth inning but Iliana Ashford started a 4-3 line drive double play with Gabby Moreno and with two outs and a runner aboard, Hoehner crashed into the left field wall and made a spectacular catch to rob Karen Wisher of a possible RBI double.

OCU ended the game with seven hits, including two each by Barrow and Kaiden Spidell.

The Stars play an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Wednesday against Grand View and that winner advances to a 4 p.m. contest with British Columbia in the finals. UBC enters the day as the lone unbeaten in the double-elimination bracket. An 'if necessary' game would take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Blue Mountain eliminated Williams Baptist in the first game of the day before seeing its season end with the evening loss.
