Bullhead City, Ariz.-- For the first time this spring golf season, the Oklahoma City men's team did not place first as a team. The Stars finished third in a highly competitive field this week. OCU placed three golfers in the Top-3, but they were unable to bounce back from a sub-par first round. Keiser University, the #2 ranked NAIA team, finished as the second-place team in The Battle at the Laughlin Ranch Golf Course. The host school, Wayland Baptist, took home the team crown with a score of +23, which was four strokes ahead of OCU. The Pioneers used a strong second round score of 66 (-6) to propel themselves to a first-place team finish in Arizona. Twenty schools took part in the event on Monday and Tuesday.
Leading the way for OCU and finishing fourth on the individual leaderboard was
Michael Robson. The senior from North Yorkshire posted round scores of 76, 70, and 72. Robson also finished with 10 birdies during the tournament and tied for second for pars collected.
Finishing in a three-way tie for eighth place were two Stars' golfers.
Christian Yanovitch and
Tres Hill notched another Top-10 finish each and posted a score of 222, which was good for +6 in the tournament.
Lorenzo Santinelli jumped 33 spots after a strong final round of play. Entering the third round of The Battle, the Italian junior found himself in 68
th but posted a 72 to conclude the event.
Rounding out the individual leaderboard for OCU was
Philipp Perzl, who placed 72
nd out of 100 golfers.
Next Up
OCU is scheduled to compete in the Roadrunner Classic in Atlanta at The Farm Golf Club. The classic will take place April 7-8.
