Stars Win Rose Creek Classic In Record-Setting Fashion

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University closed out the Rose Creek Classic in record fashion on Tuesday at the Rose Creek Golf Club.

The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA women's golf, shot a school record low round of 272 to finish in first place in the tournament with a school record 846 card for a 54-hole tournament.

The previous low round of 278 was achieved at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in 2007 and the previous 54-hole round total of 886 was recorded at the Oklahoma City Classic in 2017.

The 16-under-par team round of 272 also set a school record for best round vs. par. The previous record was 8 under was recorded in the Stars' season-opening tournament during both rounds of the Southwestern Christian Fall Invitational on Sept. 7-8 at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City. The Rose Creek Classic was played on a par-72, 6,013 yard course.

OCU finished 27 strokes ahead of the OCU Blue Team (873) and 192 stokes ahead of third place Seminole State Community College (1,038). The 192-stroke advantage over Seminole set a school record for margin of victory over an opponent.

OCU's two teams secured the top nine spots in the tournament. Four of those golfers bettered the school record 54-hole score of 216 and two equaled that mark, led by new record holder freshman Reagan Chaney's minus-11 effort (70-68-67–205). The previous low 54-hole tally of 71-67-78–216 was recorded by Jessica Schiele in Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroo Invitational on April 8-9, 2013 at par-72, 6,124-yard Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.

Senior Natalie Gough finished in second place with a 212 (70-72-70) card and senior Lauren Behnken (Blue -72-71-70) and freshman Paige Wood (75-72-66) tied for third at 213 strokes.

Freshman Maddi Kamas (Blue – 71-73-72) and freshman Jamie Welsh (71-76-69) tied for fifth with a 216 card. Senior Rachel Eckert (Blue) finished in seventh place at 219 stokes (74-73-72), freshman Morgan Palermo (Blue) in eighth place with a 225 (75-79-71) and freshman Meghan Charles placed ninth with a 233 card (76-80-77).

OCU returns to action on Oct. 11-12 at the Sydney Cox Invitational. That tournament will be held at the Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
