OCU hosts first regular-season event at Gaillardia Country Club

Stars captured 2017 conference title at Gaillardia Country Club

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University returns to Gaillardia Country Club in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate women's golf tournament Monday and Tuesday.
The Stars collected the 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference championship at Gaillardia. Oklahoma City won its sixth consecutive conference title April 24-25, 2017. OCU owns 16 SAC championships.
Oklahoma City will tee off for the first time in a regular-season tournament at Gaillardia at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the No. 1 hole. The 36-hole tournament begins 8 a.m. Monday. There will be no spectators allowed on the course, but fans could follow the event via Golfstat live scoring.
In the Southwestern Christian Classic, OCU finished second place in the team standings with a 307. Rain limited the tournament to one round.
The Stars' Lauren Behnken, Rachel Eckert and Clair Hill posted career-best finishes in the tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Course. Behnken, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., supplied the Stars with a second-place showing after shooting 38-35–73. Hill, a senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., produced a fifth-place finish with her 37-39–76. Eckert, a junior from Bixby, Okla., tied with teammate McKenzie McCoy for ninth.
Gaillardia Country Club will be set up as a par-72, 5,829-yard layout for the women. Gaillardia Country Club's golf course was designed by award-winning course architect Arthur Hills. Hills is known for his natural approach, reputation for being environmentally friendly and unwavering commitment to excellence. The golf course opened in July 1998. Gaillardia, located at 5300 Gaillardia Boulevard in Oklahoma City, hosted the 2001 and '02 Senior Tour Championships. Gaillardia's French-Normandy-style clubhouse has been recognized as one of the top 100 clubhouses in the world.
The city area experienced a record low temperature Wednesday with rain that canceled the second round of the Southwestern Christian Classic this past week. Conditions are expected to improve with high temperatures forecast to be in the lower 80s with calm winds and a 10 percent chance for rain during the Southern Plains Intercollegiate.
