NEW ORLEANS – Oklahoma City University's Oscar Kipkoros earned NAIA men's outdoor track scholar athlete of the year as awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Five Stars collected USTFCCCA all-academic awards. Max McNeill of OCU picked up all-academic for the second year in a row. The Stars snagged an all-academic team award with a 3.18 team grade-point average.
OCU's Oaklin Davis, Kyle McKinley and Mark Shaw also took all-academic. All-academic performers were student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average and became a national meet qualifier meeting either the automatic or provisional standards.
Combining his accomplishments in the classroom and in competition during the recently completed academic year, Kipkoros was among the most exceptional among a group of 185 men from NAIA who earned USTFCCCA all-academic honors.
Kipkoros, a junior from Iten, Kenya, had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.64 studying criminal justice. He won an individual title in the steeplechase and placed fifth in the 5,000 meters at the 2019 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 23-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
McNeill, a junior from Uphall Station, Scotland, has posted a 3.33 GPA majoring in economics and finance. McNeill finished fifth in the 10,000 meters in the NAIA Championships in May.
Shaw, a junior from Ormesby, Middlesbrough, England, owns a 3.36 GPA pursuing a human performance degree. Shaw won the 10,000-meter national championship.
Davis, a senior from Aledo, Texas, has a 4.00 GPA seeking his master's in business administration. McKinley, a junior from Oklahoma City, is majoring in exercise and sports science with a 3.29 GPA.
