OCU duo takes academic all-district nods

Eldredge, Matrone both study cell & molecular biology

AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma City University golfers Melissa Eldredge and Loren Matrone garnered academic all-district 4 acclaim on the women's at-large team from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The academic all-district team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field of competition and in the classroom.
Eldredge, a junior from Eufaula, Okla., owns a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average, while Matrone, a sophomore from Frisco, Texas, boasts of a 4.06 GPA. Both OCU golfers major in cell & molecular biology.
Eldredge took the Sooner Athletic Conference individual championship, SAC player of the year, two SAC golfer of the week nods and an NAIA golfer of the week accolade. Eldredge compiled a 76.13 stroke average, 53 birdies, five top-10 finishes and two victories entering the NAIA Championships.
Matrone provided the Stars with an 81.90 scoring average in 10 rounds in 2018-19. Matrone produced a 79-75–154 to tie for eighth place in the SAC Championships on April 19-20 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
The women's at-large team includes student-athletes from bowling, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
Academic all-district selections gain consideration for academic all-American. To be eligible for academic all-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, the College Sports Information Directors of America has bestowed academic all-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
