BOULDER CREEK, Nev. – Natalie Gough of Oklahoma City University stood among the top 10 individuals of the South Dakota State Jackrabbit Invitational on Monday at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
Gough, a freshman from Bixby, Okla., tied for sixth place at nine shots off the pace. Oklahoma City, ranked 15th in NAIA women's golf, held ninth in the team standings ahead of three NCAA Division I foes.
Gough provided the Stars with an 80-76–156. Gough made par 23 times among the 36 holes. Teresa Toscano led South Dakota State with her 71-76–147 to a piece of the team lead along with Xavier.
Melissa Eldredge posted an 82-82–164 for OCU. Eldredge, a junior from Eufaula, Okla., buried seven birdies to tie for the lead among the tournament field. Eldredge knocked in four birdies on par-5 holes – twice on the 531-yard fourth hole, the 577-yard No. 7 hole and the 508-yard 11th hole.
The Stars' Lauryn Pritchard produced an 81-85–166. Pritchard, a freshman from Allen, Texas, converted a birdie chance on the par-3, 121-yard third hole.
McKenzie McCoy, a sophomore from Beggs, Okla., carded a 95-83–178, while Regan McQuaid, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., added a 93-93–186 for OCU. Lauren Behnken, a freshman from Tulsa, Okla., had a 79-87–166 playing as an individual.
The Stars compiled a 336-326–662 on the par-72, 6,322-yard layout. The conditions on the course included temperatures that were in the upper 50s and lower 60s with winds ranging between 15-25 mph.
The last round of the event tees off 9:45 a.m. CDT (7:45 a.m. PDT) Tuesday.
Eckert leads Stars in SNU Invitational
EDMOND, Okla. – Rachel Eckert topped a contingent of Oklahoma City University golfers competing as individuals in the Southern Nazarene Invitational on Monday at KickingBird Golf Course.
Eckert, a freshman from Bixby, Okla., turned in an 80 while sinking two birdies to tie for 17th. Arianna Medina, a sophomore from Phoenix, forged an 81 to tie for 22nd.
Clair Hill, a sophomore from Gig Harbor, Wash., shot an 85, and Loren Matrone, a sophomore from Frisco, Texas, had an 86.
The tournament has one more round left to played Tuesday.
