OCU captures Sydney Cox Invitational crown

Pritchard of Stars falls short of individual title in playoff

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took the inaugural Sydney Cox Invitational title Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
Lauryn Pritchard paced the Stars by tying for the individual lead through 36 holes. OCU, ranked sixth in NAIA women's golf, prevailed by 16 strokes in a field with three other ranked teams.
Pritchard, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, nailed birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to force a playoff with Jessica Williams of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Pritchard shot 70-68–138, while Williams had a 68-70–138 through two rounds.
Williams won the playoff by shooting par through four holes. Pritchard made a bogey on the fourth playoff hole. The two golfers staged their playoff on the 10th and 18th holes at Lincoln Park. Williams ended the playoff on No. 18.
Oklahoma City forged a 292-287–579 on the par-72, 6,005-yard course. The Stars have two wins in four tournaments this season. Eighth-ranked Embry-Riddle finished second, while Bellevue (Neb.) came in third. Fourth-rated Cumberlands (Ky.) picked up fourth, and No. 10 Texas Wesleyan was fifth.
Three Stars finished among the top 10. Melissa Eldredge posted a third-place 70-72–142. Eldredge, a senior from Eufaula, Okla., downed six birdies over the two days. Natalie Gough produced a 77-72–149 to tie for eighth place. Gough, a sophomore from Bixby, Okla., drained four birdies.
