Stars Complete Series Sweep in Goodwell

GOODWELL – Third-ranked Oklahoma City completed its series sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, defeating the Aggies 11-3 and 13-1.
 
The wins give OCU a 12-game winning streak and improved its record to 19-3 overall and 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
 
Stars 11, OPSU 3 (5 innings)
 
The Stars got on the board in the first inning on a two-run single by Peyton Barrow but the Aggies tied the score in the home half of the inning.
 
OCU broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning. Tara Hoehner had a two-run double, Analise Rayburn and Kaiden Spidell followed with RBI singles. Carlee Mollet added an RBI double and two runs scored on Hadley Gibson's triple.
 
Iliana Ashford tacked on an RBI double and Hoehner and RBI single in the fifth.
 
The Stars had 12 hits, including three by Hoehner and two each by Gibson, Ashford and Rayburn.
 
Brynlee Alsip got the win in relief, striking out three in 2.1 innings.
 
Stars 13, OPSU 1 (5 innings)
 
OCU got things rolling in the first inning with an RBI double by Rayburn and an RBI single by Barrow.
 
The Stars added three more in the third on a sacrifice fly by Rayburn, an RBI single by Barrow and an RBI triple by Gabby Moreno.
 
Ashford and Hoehner had RBI ground balls to shortstop in the fourth.
 
Moreno added an RBI single in the fifth, followed by a run-scoring double play, an RBI single by Gibson, a two-run double by Hoehner and an RBI double by Barrow.
 
The Stars had 17 hits in the second game, including four by Barrow and three by Hoehner. Rayburn, Moreno and Mollett had two each.
 
Alsip (11-2) went the distance with six strikeouts in five innings.
 
The Stars are back in action next weekend, hosting a conference series against Texas Wesleyan with doubleheaders at 2 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
