MESQUITE, Texas – Stars softball continued their fast and strong start to the 2026 season with two more wins at the Southern Sports Collegiate Invitational, both by shutout. Oklahoma City opened play Saturday with a contest against the Friends University Falcons and concluded their showcase in the Lone Star State with a match-up against Concordia (Neb.).

OCU utilized small-ball and unselfish play in game one on Saturday to earn its third win of the season. Strong pitching fueled the Stars' success, with starter
Brynlee Alsip pitching five innings. Alsip totaled five strikeouts and surrendered two hits in her outing.
Zero of the Stars' five runs were recorded through an extra-base hit, and three of them came from balls hit in the infield. The Falcons actually outhit the Stars 7-5 during the contest.
Jessica Phares recorded the first RBI of the day for OCU when she drove
Hadley Gibson in to score from third. Gibson stole third base after hitting a double to reach base. During the fourth inning, the Stars doubled their lead to go up 4-0 after Phares singled and brought
Jaslyne Williams in to score. A SAC fly by
Kaiden Spidell scored
Gabby Moreno after she stole third base upon entering as a pinch runner for Phares.
From the fourth inning on, Friends stranded seven runners on base.
Morgandee Sawatzky pitched the final two innings of the game and recorded zero walks to pair with two strikeouts.

OCU produced much more offense in game two of Saturday's slate. The Stars opened the scoring early with two runs in the first inning. After an
Analise Rayburn walk, Kendalyn Miller singled to left field, advancing Rayburn to second base. One batter later, Rayburn scored after Moreno knocked a double into left field. Gibson followed the Moreno double with an RBI single. There was a brief pause in the scoring until the third inning.
During inning number three, Oklahoma City amassed four runs on three hits. Miller connected on another extra-base hit in the form of a triple after Rayburn knocked in two runs. With a 6-0 lead, OCU not only received ample scoring output from Miller, but also received a stellar pitching performance from the junior.
Miller induced weak contact against the Concordia hitters in the bottom of the third inning, with two outs coming from pop-outs. Rayburn added to the OCU lead during the top of the fourth inning when she put a charge into a three-run home run over the center field wall. The Rayburn blast secured the run-rule shutout for OCU, which was the third consecutive shutout for the Stars. OCU has also collected two run-rule victories in its four games so far in 2026.

Oklahoma City will return home to Ann Lacey Stadium to face Southern Oregon University in a national championship rematch doubleheader on Feb. 19. Oklahoma City's home opening game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m. CDT.
