Abe Lemons Golf Classic set for June 23rd

Annual fund-raising tournament provides major support of student-athletes

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University hosts the 21st annual Abe Lemons Golf Classic at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 23rd at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

The Abe Lemons Golf Classic has been one of the Stars' top annual fundraising events, gathering alumni, fans and golfers together for the sake of OCU Athletics. Additionally, participants can meet and visit with OCU staff before and after the event.

The Abe Lemons Golf Classic benefits the Stars' regular operating expenses and other possible budgetary needs in support of student-athletes' goals and aspirations. Registration for a four-person team is $600, and hole sponsorships are $250 ($150 if also entering a team). To sign up a team or sponsor a hole, visit the online registration page or download this form (PDF) and return to the address provided. For information, or to donate prizes for the tournament, contact Chris Maxon, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs – camaxon@okcu.edu or (405) 208-5431.

Those competing will play in a scramble format in four-person teams. Lunch will be provided, and all players participating in the tournament will be eligible for additional prizes. Check-in takes place at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Space is limited, and the tournament is expected to reach capacity prior to the June 19th entry deadline.

"This tournament has been such a special event for many years now, honoring one of our OCU legends while also providing a fun way to directly impact our student-athletes," said Corey Bray, OCU Director of Athletics. "Abe Lemons represented the absolute best in coaching and mentoring, and it is so appropriate that one of our most important fund-raising events of the year has his name attached."

Oklahoma City has collected 73 national championships in all sports and three Directors' Cup titles (2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19) over the years. OCU has won at least one national title for 30 years in a row.

Lincoln Park is now 100 years old, and Oklahoma City's oldest public golf course. A great partner to OCU Athletics, Lincoln has been the site of the 2019 and 2022 NAIA women's golf championships. The course unveiled its new state-of-the-art $9.25 million clubhouse in spring 2015.
