Game Preview: Oklahoma City Women's Basketball vs Columbia College

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team will tip off another week with three games starting on Tuesday against Columbia College inside Abe Lemons Arena.

About the Stars

  • Oklahoma City snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday in the 56-point route over Central Christian. 
  • The 87-31 result was the largest margin of victory the Stars have had since January of 2020. 
  • The OCU defense turned up on Saturday forcing 30 turnovers, the most since 2018 as well as getting 21 steals which was the most since 2017. 
  • Senior Amaya Gordon has led the Stars through the first seven games this season scoring 14.6 a game and averaging 8.1 RPG. Gordon comes off a big game against Central Christian after setting a season-high 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.  
  • Jazmin Adams made her home debut on Saturday and broke out as one of the Stars top players. Adams racked up a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, 

About the Cougars

  • Columbia College enters Tuesday's game receiving votes in the NAIA poll after getting out to a strong 8-2 start. 
  • The Cougars come in on a three-game winning streak after beating Friends University 74-49, Central Baptist 90-51, and finally taking down Williams Baptist 72-65 on Saturday. 
  • Delaney Horstman leads the Cougars by averaging double-figures in points (17.3) and rebounds (10.5). Horstman has scored 20-plus points three times this season, seeing her biggest game come against William Penn with a 26-point performance and a season-high 18 rebounds. 

Meet the Coaches

  • Kris Seigenthaler (2nd Season)
    • Kris Seigenthaler enters year two at the helm for Stars after posting a 13-15 record in 2022-23. Seigenthaler arrived at Oklahoma City after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Loyola (La.). 
    • In four seasons with Loyola, Seigenthaler helped the Wolfpack sweep the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships for two consecutive years. Loyola advanced to the NAIA Championship Tournament and posted 20-win seasons all four years. The Wolf Pack went 91-22 (.805 winning percentage) with her contributions.
    • Seigenthaler coached four NAIA all-Americans, two Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-Americans as well as student-athletes who won conference player of the year, defensive player of the year, newcomer of the year, sixth man of the year, and two conference tournament most valuable player awards at Loyola.
    • Before joining the Loyola coaching staff, Seigenthaler spent two years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.). She coached one all-American there. She assisted with the school's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference after being a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) for 17 years. While with the Warhawks in 2017, she was also recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on its Thirty Under 30 list.  
  • James Arnold (2nd Season)
    •  Arnold took over head coaching responsibilities in the summer of 2022 and made an immediate impact on the women's basketball program, guiding the Cougars to a 26-5 record overall, an 18-2 conference record, the regular season and tournament conference titles, and a trip to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament. 
    • Arnold was named AMC Coach of the Year. The list of accolades for the team last season consisted of 14 Academic All-Conference members, four NAIA Scholar Athletes, four All-Conference awards and an Honorable-Mention All American just to name a few.   

Series History 

  • Tuesday's contest will be the first meeting in 20 years between the schools and the third in the all-time series.
  • Oklahoma City is unbeaten against the Cougars in the two games of this series winning the last matchup 101-60 which came on Nov. 21, 2003.

  • Oklahoma City will stay busy and hit the hardwood on Thursday, Dec. 7 against Wayland Baptist at 6 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
