PLAINVIEW, Texas - Oklahoma City fell victim to a third quarter comeback at Wayland Baptist in an 80-66 loss on Saturday at the Hutcherson Center.
Annilia Dawn made the most of her opportunities in the game leading with a season high 20 points. The Stars led by eight with eight minutes left in the third quarter before the Pioneers took the game over. OCU fell to 6-7, 3-5 with the loss.
Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas had a career high six steals to go along with three assists and her 20 points. She leads OCU with 13.4 points per game and steals with 24.
Amaya Gordon and
Fiona Wilson both had 16 points to round out the Stars double figure scorers. Wilson, a senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., had a double -double with her 16 points, 10 rebounds, and supplied five steals. The double-double is her third of the season and her five steals ties her career high. Gordon, a junior criminal justice major from Ardmore, Okla., had eight rebounds to go along with her 16 points.
OCU led the majority of the first half. They were up at the end of the first quarter by four and got up to lead by eight with 4:32 left in the first half. They finished the half up by two. The Pioneers came out of the half on fire and outscored OCU 30-14. The third quarter was ultimately too much to overcome for the Stars.
"Thats a tough loss, Seigenthaler said. The first 10 minutes we came out fierce, but the third hurt us defensively. There is still a lot of competition left as we focus on our next competitor."
The Stars succumbed to Wayland Baptists impressive shooting performance. The Pioneers shot 83% from deep in their third quarter barrage and shot 54.5% on the game compared to the Stars 36.4%. The Pioneers made only three shots in the second quarter but did a complete one-eighty and missed only three in the third quarter.
OCU tips off at 6 p.m. at Southwestern Christian on Thursday for their next game as they look to bounce back.
