Fabius Bascon of Oklahoma City University became an academic all-American® as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Bascon, a senior from New Braunfels, Texas, made the second team on the CoSIDA NAIA men's at-large academic all-America® team. He boasts of a 4.013 cumulative grade-point average pursuing a bachelor's degree of fine arts in acting.
The Stars have collected 99 CoSIDA academic all-America honors all-time. Oklahoma City student-athletes who have taken academic all-America acclaim in 2021-22 include Bascon, Peyton Crispin (baseball), Dalton Daniel (men's golf), Lexi Duff (softball), Kennedy Jackson (softball), Sophia Salak (volleyball), Abby Selzer (women's basketball) and Frederic Walter (baseball). Crispin was the NAIA baseball academic all-American of the year.
In 2021-22, Bascon seized NAIA all-America acclaim as the Stars finished eighth in the NAIA competitive dance championships on March 11-12 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Bascon contributed to OCU's national runner-up showing in the 2021 NAIA Championships. Bascon has helped the Stars take three NAIA Southwest Qualifying Group titles.
Bascon has been honored for his classroom work as a two-time CoSIDA academic all-district, two-time NAIA scholar-athlete, two-time Sooner Athletic Conference scholar-athlete and two-time SAC commissioner's honor roll.
OCU owns the 2014 NAIA title as well as four National Dance Alliance crowns.
The academic all‐America® at-large team, voted upon by CoSIDA, honors the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. CoSIDA began the distinguished academic all-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite academic all-America® scholar-athlete honors.
To be eligible for academic all-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
The men's at-large team recognizes student-athletes who compete in bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, golf, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
