OKLAHOMA CITY – Cross Factor of Oklahoma City University garnered Sooner Athletic Conference baseball player of the year.
Oklahoma City raked in the SAC's pitcher of the year (Eli Davis) and coach of the year (Denney Crabaugh). The SAC handed all-conference honors to 10 Stars – Davis, Factor, Noah Barks, Peyton Crispin and Tanner Schoeninger hauled in first-team accolades.
OCU's Frederic Walter became a second-team all-SAC recipient, and Crispin, Factor, Darian Luper and Dylan Taylor took conference gold glove awards.
Factor has boasted of being one of the NAIA's premier all-around performers of 2022. Factor, a senior center fielder from Yukon, Okla., stands atop the NAIA in batting average (.528), total bases (200) and slugging percentage (1.136) entering the SAC Tournament title game. Factor ranks among the national leaders in home runs (25), RBIs (79), hits (93), runs scored (79), doubles (26), triples (three) and on-base percentage (.597).
Factor has crushed two or more homers in a game four times, belting a season-high three round-trippers against Bacone on April 1 at Jim Wade Stadium. He knocked in a season-high seven runs on March 19 against Science & Arts in Chickasha, Okla., and had a season-high five hits as part of a 5-for-6 day at Panhandle State on April 30 in Goodwell, Okla. He has been the centerpiece of an OCU offense that tops the NAIA in doubles and slugging percentage. Factor, a two-time all-SAC performer, took four SAC player of the week honors this season.
Davis has turned in a 10-0 record, 1.07 earned run average and 91 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched. Davis, a junior left-hander from Shawnee, Okla., rates second in the NAIA in ERA on the year. Davis has reached double figures in strikeouts three times with a season-best 13 against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Feb. 18 in Oklahoma City. He became SAC pitcher of the week for April 25-May 1.
Crabaugh tops current coaches and ranks third all-time in wins in the NAIA. Crabaugh, a five-time SAC coach of the year, has guided OCU to a 1,599-491-2 record with 13 SAC Tournament titles in his 34th year. The Stars reeled off winning streaks of 18 and 16 games while reaching No. 4 in the national rankings in 2022. Oklahoma City grabbed its 12th SAC regular-season championship and first since 2018 under Crabaugh this year. Entering this year, OCU had accumulated 1,486 wins for the most in college baseball since 1991.
Barks, a senior from Mustang, Okla., has supplied the Stars with a .347 average, four homers, 40 RBIs, 19 doubles, a triple, 67 hits and 11 steals. Barks became a two-time all-conference choice. He twice went 4-for-4 this year including against Science & Arts in the conference tournament title contest.
Crispin has posted a .466 average, 12 homers, 78 RBIs, 82 hits, 55 runs scored, 30 doubles and six triples. Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., picked up his second all-SAC accolade. Crispin had a walk-off homer against Texas Wesleyan on Sunday in the SAC Tournament and a walk-off two-run double vs. Bethany (Kan.) on Feb. 20. He owns a .990 fielding percentage.
Schoeninger landed his second all-SAC honor. Schoeninger, a senior right-hander from Fort Collins, Colo., has gone 10-0 with a 3.48 ERA with four complete games and 64 strikeouts in 75 innings pitched.
Walter, a senior from Montigny, France, has collected a .358 average, 13 homers, 47 RBIs, 45 runs scored, 49 hits, 17 doubles, one triple and seven steals.
Luper, a senior from Ada, Okla., has contributed both as a third baseman and a pitcher. He has a .943 fielding percentage. Luper owns a .397 average, seven homers, 34 RBIs, 18 doubles, three triples, nine steals, 54 runs scored and 48 hits. On the mound, Luper has recorded an 0-1 record, 3.60 ERA and nine strikeouts in five innings.
Taylor snagged his second SAC gold glove award. Taylor, a senior from Jenks, Okla., has registered a .988 fielding percentage while throwing out 80 percent of runners trying to steal.
