Stars take eighth against top field

ROCKY FACE, Ga. – Tres Hill of Oklahoma City University produced a top-10 finish in the Dalton State Roadrunner Classic on Tuesday at The Farm Golf Club.

The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA men's golf, forged a tie for eighth place in their regular-season finale. Hill, a freshman from Elk City, Okla., turned in a tie for ninth place.

Hill carded a 76-69-73–218, nine shots behind the tournament winner Jack Maxey of Dalton State (Ga.). Hill knocked in seven birdies during the tournament. He played the second round without a bogey. Hill Hill notched his fourth top-10 finish in eight starts this season.

All 12 teams in the tournament field were included in the last NAIA top 25. Oklahoma City posted a 300-292-306–898 to finish tied with eighth-rated Point (Ga.). Top-ranked Keiser (Fla.) took the win by 45 strokes over No. 7 Ottawa (Ariz.).

OCU had two individuals in the top 25. Dalton Daniel came up with a tie for 24th place with a 79-75-72–226. Daniel, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., topped the field by making par on 40 holes.

Oklahoma City's Dylan Teeter, a freshman from Bixby, Okla., collected a score of 75-75-80–229 to tie for 35th, while Will Fore, a senior from Southlake, Texas, provided a 70-74-86–230. Fore registered 12 birdies. Bosten Benn, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., had an 82-83-81–246.

The golfers played 43-46 holes Monday and the remainder of the tournament Tuesday. The teams played into Monday evening in an effort to play all 54 holes and get ahead of predicted troublesome weather in the area.

The Stars enter the postseason in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on April 25-26 at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla. OCU owns five of the past six league titles, 24 SAC championships and 26 conference crowns overall.
