DAVENPORT, Iowa – Oklahoma City University snared the NAIA Northeast Qualifying Group Competitive Cheerleading Championships for its sixth consecutive qualifier title Saturday at the Lee Lohman Arena.

Oklahoma City produced its finest mark this season by garnering a 94.94 overall score. The defending national champion Stars reached the NAIA Championships on March 11-12 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Stars topped the postseason event that featured both last year's national champion and runner-up. St. Ambrose (Iowa), the 2021 NAIA runner-up, came in second place with an overall score of 92.89.

OCU wrapped up the title with a final performance that hauled in a 94.93 score. The Stars earned the No. 1 spot for the finals with a preliminary score of 94.96.

"I'm so proud of the team for both of their performances today," OCU coach Alicia Bailey said. "We are making progress each time we step on the mat, and I love seeing that. We hit some new skills today which was very exciting and helped increase our difficulty scores from where they were during the regular season. The team is working together very well right now, and I believe that is a huge factor in the success we are having."

The best score Oklahoma City had collected this season entering the postseason was a 92.30 tally in the Baker Classic on Feb. 12 in Baldwin City, Kan. OCU's last three performances have taken scores of 90 or better.

The Stars have captured four NAIA national crowns in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2021.
