YORK, Neb. – Oklahoma City University takes aim at another NAIA Southwest Qualifying Group Competitive Dance Championships title on Saturday at the Freeman Center.
The Stars have taken the last five qualifier crowns to punch their tickets to the NAIA Championships. The event begins 10:30 a.m. Saturday with OCU's preliminary performance set for 11:20 a.m. The finals are 12:40 p.m.
OCU comes off posting its top score of the season of 85.34 in the Baker Classic on Feb. 12 in Baldwin City, Kan. The Stars have averaged a score of 81.01 in four performances. OCU twice garnered a score of 80 or better.
Preliminary scores make up 25 percent of a team's overall score, while finals scores account for 75 percent. The top team secures its bid to the NAIA Championships on March 11-12 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
"It'll be a great time to see the work we've put in up to this point pay off," OCU coach Tasha Hinex said.
Oklahoma City became the national runner-up in the 2021 NAIA Championships in Davenport, Iowa. The Stars own the 2014 NAIA championship and four National Dance Alliance titles.
OCU's all-American candidates will also perform their routines to earn all-American accolades. The Stars returned all-Americans Jordyn Pierson and Ally Setser from last year's team. Pierson is a three-time all-American.
