OCU pair takes all-SAC acclaim

Selzer becomes first Star to grab four all-conference nods since Gober

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Erika Ankney and Abby Selzer collected all-Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball accolades. 

Selzer, a senior from Thomas, Okla., became a four-time all-SAC honoree, while Ankney, a senior from Harrah, Okla., took her third all-conference nod. Selzer gave OCU its first four-time all-SAC performer since Lauren Gober from 2009-13. 

Selzer made the all-SAC second team for the second year in a row. She also owns two first-team all-conference honors, 2019-20 SAC player of the year, 2019-20 league athlete of the year, 2018-19 SAC freshman of the year and four SAC player of the week awards in her career with two of her weekly SAC honors coming this season. Selzer has increased her career numbers to 1,728 points and 764 rebounds, moving to fifth in OCU history in points. 

In 2021-22, Selzer has turned in 18.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.46 blocked shots a game. She tops the NAIA in field-goal percentage (66.9 percent). Selzer has posted career highs with 29 points at Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Nov. 23 and 19 rebounds against Langston on Nov. 20. 

Ankney landed on the all-conference third team for the third consecutive year. Ankney hauled in SAC player of the week for Jan. 3-9. Ankney has supplied the Stars with 731 points, 159 rebounds, 194 assists, 104 steals and 72 3-pointers in three years. 

As a senior, Ankney has delivered 17.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.38 steals a contest. Ankney has established career points with 31 points at Southwestern Christian on Jan. 8, seven rebounds at Panhandle State on Feb. 7, eight assists at Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Dec. 4, five thefts at North Texas Dallas on Dec. 2 and two blocks vs. Langston. 

Oklahoma City faces Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Friday in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City.
