Stars select Conzemius as rowing coach

Conzemius most recently served as head coach at Camp Randall Rowing Club

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has named Cory Conzemius as its head men's and women's rowing coach.

Conzemius comes to the Stars after leading the Camp Randall Rowing Club in Madison, Wis., as part of a variety of coaching experience he holds.

"We are excited to welcome Cory Conzemius to lead our rowing program," Oklahoma City athletic director Jim Abbott said. "Cory has a great background and understanding of the sport of rowing and is committed to building a balanced program that continues to emphasize academic and athletic success. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that he makes with our team."

Conzemius has been head coach of the Camp Randall Rowing Club, the top junior program in the area. Two of the club's crews took medals with the men's pair capturing the national title in the USRowing Youth National Regatta in Sarasota, Fla.

"I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead the men's and women's rowing program at Oklahoma City University," Conzemius said. "I look forward to sharing my passion with the team and working with the student-athletes while helping them succeed on and off the water."

Conzemius' experience includes being a college head coach at High Point University, guiding the Panthers to winning the American Collegiate Rowing Association title in the men's pair.

Conzemius directed the Gainesville Area Rowing with a club-record five crews qualifying for the 2018 USRowing Youth National Regatta. He has been head novice coach with St. John's College High School (D.C.), head women's coach with University of Maryland and head coach for Cleveland Youth Rowing Association and Hillsborough High School rowing club. He is a USRowing level II and NFHS certified coach.

Conzemius began his coaching career as novice coach at American University. Conzemius competed in college for American as a lightweight rower and coxswain. He took leadership roles in the program as senior officer, fundraising director, transportation director, treasurer and publicity officer. Conzemius earned bachelor's degrees in history and communications.

OCU hosts the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta on Oct. 2-3 on the Oklahoma River. The Stars earned their first medal in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships with a third-place showing in the women's lightweight double as well as the men's varsity heavyweight four title in the Dad Vail Regatta in 2020-21.
