Stars pursue SAC championship

Meyers owns wins in his last six tournaments

ARDMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University's David Meyers brings a winning streak of six tournaments into the Sooner Athletic Conference men's golf championships Monday and Tuesday at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club.
Oklahoma City, ranked eighth in the NAIA, owns 23 SAC titles including four of the past five league crowns and eight of the last 10 conference championships. The SAC Championships tee off 8 a.m. Monday.
The 54-hole tournament takes place at Dornick Hills, which will be set up as a par-70, 6,671-yard course. Dornick Hills will be the host for the SAC Championships for the third time. OCU took SAC titles at Dornick Hills in 2010 and 2013 en route to national crowns.
Texas Wesleyan reeled in the 2019 SAC championship at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas before winning the national title. Wayland Baptist (Texas) enters the tournament with the No. 4 national ranking, while Texas Wesleyan stands at No. 10. Southwestern Christian has the No. 16 spot in the ratings.
Meyers, a senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, took the U.C. Ferguson Classic on April 12-13 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City to win his sixth consecutive start. Meyers set OCU's record with his sixth win in a row and tied the Stars' single-season mark with six wins. With his 69-62-66–197, Meyers tied the best 54-hole score in the U.C. Ferguson Classic history and the finest round in OCU history with his second-round 32-30–62.
During 2020-21, Meyers has tallied a 68.16 scoring average in 19 rounds. Meyers is looking to top James Marchesani's 70.74 stroke average in 2013-14 for the best scoring average by an OCU golfer. Meyers owns five SAC player of the week accolades and an NAIA golfer of the week honor this season.
Dalton Daniel has provided the Stars with a 71.56 stroke average through nine rounds. Daniel, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., notched back-to-back fourth-place finishes in his first two tournaments for OCU. Bosten Benn, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., has contributed a 74.63 scoring average with two top-10 finishes this season.
Perry Maxwell designed Dornick Hills. It is typically considered among the top five golf courses in Oklahoma. Maxwell is known as the architect of Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., and for redesigning Augusta National Golf Club and Pine Valley Golf Club among others. The Dornick Hills clubhouse features a view of the Arbuckle Mountains.
OCU has collected 11 national championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018.
