LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma City University will face an old Sooner Athletic Conference rival tonight when it plays a men's basketball exhibition game at Lubbock Christian. The game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. at Rip Griffin Center on the LCU campus.
Â
OCU and LCU were heated rivals before the Chaps left the Sooner Athletic Conference after the 2012-13 season to join the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference. The Stars hold a 34-12 lead in the all-time series over the Chaps.
Â
LCU, now a member of the Lone Star Conference, is ranked No. 1 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll. The Chaps are 7-0 this season with three top-25 wins in the books. The ranked wins are over Colorado School of Mines, West Texas A&M and Hawaii at Hilo.
Â
LCU ranks 11th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 59.0 points per game. The Chaps have allowed 70-plus points only once this season and that was in a 92-74 win over Arlington Baptist.
Â
Offensively, LCU averages 75.2 points per game while ranking 20th in NCAA Division II men's basketball in field goal percentage (199 of 386, 50.7%).
Â
After tonight's exhibition OCU returns to Sooner Athletic Conference play with a home game against John Brown (Arkansas) on Wednesday night. The Stars will then face Paul Quinn (Texas) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon on the home court. Â
