Stars' Salak secures second CoSIDA academic all-American® accolade

Senior from McKinney, Texas, gives OCU 92 all-time academic all-Americans®

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophia Salak of Oklahoma City University boasted of her second NAIA women's volleyball academic all-America® selection as awarded by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Oklahoma City has garnered 92 CoSIDA academic all-American® honors all-time. Salak, a senior from McKinney, Texas, collected first-team academic all-American® acclaim after being on the second team last year.

Salak has amassed a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average as a biomedical sciences major. Salak's other academic accolades include two-time CoSIDA academic all-district®, two-time NAIA scholar-athlete award, two-time Sooner Athletic Conference scholar-athlete, two-time academic all-Sooner Athletic Conference and three SAC commissioner's honor roll nods.

As a senior, Salak came in at 11th nationally in assists per set (10.90) to go with 2.11 digs, 0.48 blocks and 0.34 aces a set. Salak accumulated a career-best 61 assists against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Oct. 9 at Abe Lemons Arena, three 50-assist performances and 13 40-assist outings this season. Salak became OCU's all-time leader in assists with 3,498 while posting 700 digs, 169 kills, 142 aces and 125 blocks in her career.

Salak landed three NAIA all-American nods, three AVCA all-American accolades, two region player of the year awards, region setter of the year, two-time all-region, two-time SAC most valuable player, two-time SAC setter of the year, three-time all-SAC, two-time SAC Tournament MVP, two-time conference tournament all-tournament, two-time NAIA setter of the week and 14-time SAC setter of the week.

The academic all‐America® women's volleyball team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. CoSIDA began the distinguished academic all-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite academic all-America® scholar-athlete honors.

To be eligible for academic all-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
