McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University makes its debut under new coach
Mark Berokoff in the 2021-22 season.
The Stars will be in the McPherson Classic on Friday and Saturday in McPherson, Kan., to begin the season. Berokoff joined Oklahoma City after coming across town from Randall.
OCU brings back all-Sooner Athletic Conference performers Rashaun Coleman and
Kori Guest. The duo became the Stars' top scorers in 2020-21.
Oklahoma City owns six national championships won in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008 with 13 SAC regular-season titles and 10 SAC Tournament championships.
TOP RETURNERS
• Rashaun Coleman became an honorable-mention all-conference choice in 2020-21. Coleman, a 6-foot senior from Houston, turned in 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.38 steals per contest while knocking down 47.4 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from beyond the 3-point line last season. Coleman boasted of a career effort at Southwestern Christian on Feb. 13, delivering his top numbers in a Star uniform with 25 points and 12 assists. That performance helped Coleman secure SAC player of the week for Feb. 8-14

Kori Guest picked up honorable-mention all-SAC honors last season. Guest, a 6-6 senior from Tulsa, Okla., posted 13.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.13 steals a game with a 39.7 percent 3-point shooting percentage in 2020-21. Guest recorded season highs with 24 points and six treys against Southwestern Christian on Feb. 13 in Bethany, Okla.
• Romario Spence compiled 10.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game with a 50.8 percent field-goal percentage and two double-doubles a season ago. Spence, a 6-7 senior from Luton, England, provided one of OCU's highlights of the season by laying in the decisive bucket with 2.2 seconds remaining in a 75-74 win over John Brown (Ark.) on Jan. 30 inside Abe Lemons Arena

• Jordan Keys took all-Dallas Athletic Conference accolades while posting 10.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game the past season

Dravon Clayborn gained a reputation as a speedy and tough defender while grabbing all-conference honors in junior college. Clayborn averaged 9.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists a contest for Navarro (Texas) as a sophomore
• Jaelen Arnette and
Zach Lerblance followed Berokoff from Randall. Arnette contributed 4.6 points a game and shot 44.7 percent from 3-point range last season
PRESEASON BUZZ
• Oklahoma City came in eighth place in the preseason SAC rating after taking 54 points in the poll of league coaches. Conference coaches named the Stars in sixth on three ballots, while five had OCU in seventh
MEET THE COACH
• Berokoff directed Randall to three national championships and a national runner-up showing in nine years as head coach of the Saints. Berokoff led Randall to a 147-122 mark. Randall annually squared off with SAC teams and knocked off OCU twice in that span
• Berokoff produced five national player of the year honorees, 16 all-Americans, three national tournament outstanding player award winners and one scholar all-American with Randall. Berkoff became two-time national coach of the year
• Berokoff's coaching career spans the high school, college and professional levels. His combined head-coaching record over 19 years in the college and prep ranks is 372-199

• OCU entertains Champion Christian (Ark.) at 4 p.m. Nov. 6 at Abe Lemons Arena for its annual homecoming game
• The Stars remain at home for five games in a row starting with a league matchup 7:45 p.m. Dec. 8 against John Brown (Ark.) and concluding 7:45 p.m. Jan. 6 vs. Mid-America Christian at Abe Lemons Arena. That stretch includes four SAC matchups and OCU's last non-conference game of the season 4 p.m. Dec. 11 against Paul Quinn (Texas)
• Four teams included in the preseason NAIA poll appear on Oklahoma City's schedule – third-ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas), eighth-ranked Bethel (Kan.), 10th-rated Carroll (Mont.) and No. 15 Science & Arts
• The SAC Tournament tips off Feb. 24 with quarterfinal contests with the higher seeds serving as hosts. The tournament moves to Mid-America Christian's Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City for the remainder of the tournament Feb. 28-March 1. The SAC Tournament champion and conference regular-season champion earn national-tournament bids
• Last season marked the first under a new format for the NAIA Championship Tournament, which includes a 48-team bracket. The NAIA Championship Opening Round breaks the field into eight six-team tournaments on campuses throughout the country. The Opening Round takes place March 11-12 with the surviving teams advancing to the NAIA Championship Tournament on March 17-22 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
