Stars hold Southern Plains Intercollegiate

OCU aims for third consecutive win in Southern Plains Intercollegiate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University will look to continue its success at Gaillardia Country Club in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate men's golf tournament Monday and Tuesday.
OCU has taken five of the six tournaments the Stars have competed in at Gaillardia Country Club. The Stars have won the past two Southern Plains Intercollegiate events and the 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference title at the Oklahoma City golf course.
The Stars will open play in the tournament at 8 a.m. Monday at the first hole. OCU will tee off in two groups at 8 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. Monday. Fans will not be permitted at the course, but Golfstat live scoring will be available.
David Meyers of Oklahoma City notched his third second-place finish in five starts in the Southwestern Christian Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday at Lake Hefner Golf Course. Meyers, a senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, forged a 67-72–139. He owns three top-five finishes in five appearances at Gaillardia including sharing the individual title with fellow South African Rupert Kaminski as a freshman in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate.
Five OCU golfers finished among the top 25 in the Southwestern Christian Classic – Meyers, Mason Mikeska (tied for 13th), Bosten Benn (tied for 18th), Robbie Sager (tied for 22nd) and Will Fore (tied for 24th). Mikeska, a junior from Waco, Texas, carded a 72-74–146, and Benn, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., contributed a 77-71–148.
The men's players will compete on a par-72, 7,001-yard course. Gaillardia Country Club's golf course was designed by award-winning course architect Arthur Hills. Hills is known for his natural approach, reputation for being environmentally friendly and unwavering commitment to excellence. The golf course opened in July 1998. Gaillardia, located at 5300 Gaillardia Boulevard in Oklahoma City, hosted the 2001 and '02 Senior Tour Championships. Gaillardia's French-Normandy-style clubhouse has been recognized as one of the top 100 clubhouses in the world.

A record low temperature was recorded in the metro area Wednesday that coupled with rain that canceled the final round of the Southwestern Christian Classic this past week. The Southern Plains Intercollegiate will feature more favorable conditions with high temperatures projected to be in the lower 80s with calm winds and a 10 percent chance for rain.
