OKLAHOMA CITY – New Oklahoma City University women's basketball coach Brett Tahah has signed Mary Cone from Bartlesville, Okla., as her first recruit.
Cone earned a reputation as a defensive stalwart for Bartlesville. Her twin sister, Elise, has signed a letter of intent with Sooner Athletic Conference member John Brown (Ark.).
"We are very excited to have Mary joining the OCU women's basketball family," Tahah said. "She will be a great student-athlete, and we know she will have a positive impact on the team."
Cone intends to study business marketing at OCU.
"I am super excited to play at OCU for Coach Tahah and Coach (McKinsey) Reddoch," Cone said. "OCU has a strong tradition of excellence both on the court and academically. The more I get to know the coaches and the players, the more excited I am about being part of Coach Tahah's vision for the women's basketball program.
"I am thankful for the support and encouragement I've received from the coaches and the players during this process, and I am very blessed to have family, friends, and coaches who have poured into me and helped me to grow as a person and develop my game. I thank God for this opportunity and all the experiences that have brought me to this day. I can't wait to compete as a Star."
In 2019-20, Oklahoma City reeled off a 30-2 mark while taking its fourth consecutive SAC regular-season championship. The Stars assumed the No. 1 spot in three national polls while posting a 27-0 start for the program's best start since going 34-0 in 2002-03. OCU notched 30 wins for the third time in four years and its 23rd consecutive NAIA Division I Championship Tournament bid.
OCU has won nine national titles in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
