OCU sets Jan. 15 as start of athletic activities

Stars to begin preparations for 2020-21 season in mid-January

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has announced the delay of athletic competitions and practices until Jan. 15, 2021, when it will begin preparation for the 2020-21 season.
The decision is made in response to the continuing increase of COVID-19 cases in the city and state and with the consideration of the health and safety of OCU student-athletes, coaches, staff and the community.
"I know this announcement is extremely disappointing for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans," said OCU athletic director Jim Abbott. "We desperately want to compete, and in some cases at least practice. That having been said, our ultimate concern is the health and safety of our students and coaches, and conditions have led to this difficult decision to delay until the start of the spring semester."
The Stars compete intercollegiately in 22 sports: baseball, competitive cheerleading, competitive pom/dance, softball, STUNT, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, rowing, soccer, track & field and wrestling. OCU owns 69 national championships in all sports.
