OCU returns to course in Sydney Cox Invitational

Meyers collected sixth victory as Star in Southern Plains Intercollegiate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University wraps up its fall season with the Sydney Cox Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Stars' men's golf squad starts on the No. 10 tee at 8:30 a.m. Monday on the par-70, 6,420-yard East Course. The tournament tees off 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on the par-71, 6,518-yard West Course.
David Meyers of OCU seized his sixth career win in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate on Sept. 14-15 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City. Meyers, a senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, captured the win by 11 shots with his 16-under-par 64-69-67–200 on the par-72, 7,001-yard course. Meyers collected his 24th career round in the 60s while reaching 16 strokes under par for the first time since Jan. 29-30, 2018 in the Ottawa-Arizona Invitational in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Meyers nabbed his second career Sooner Athletic Conference men's golf player of the week following the victory. In 2020-21, Meyers has racked up a 67.80 stroke average and 27 birdies in five rounds.
The Stars finished third place in the team standings at two shots shy of team co-champions Bellevue (Neb.) and Southwestern Christian. OCU's Bosten Benn contributed a third-place 74-70-68–212, while Mason Mikeska turned in a 16th-place showing.
The Sydney Cox Invitational will feature a men's field for the first time. Cox holds membership in the NAIA Hall of Fame and the OCU Athletics Hall of Fame, becoming the first women's golfer to gain the recognition from the NAIA. Cox won the 2009 individual national championship and became a three-time NAIA all-American while contributing to four national championships for the Stars from 2005-09.
Lincoln Park rates as one of Oklahoma's finest public golf courses. Oklahoma City's oldest public golf course unveiled its new state-of-the-art $9.25 million club house in spring 2015. The course was designed by Art Jackson and built in 1923. It features bent grass on the greens and Bermuda grass on the fairways.
Conditions on the course are expected to include 50-degree temperatures to start the day and high temperatures in the lower 80s. Wind could blow between 10-20 mph.
