OCU Men's Golf Opens Spring at OUAZ Invitational

Stars Look to Build off Solid Fall Performance in Arizona

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Fifth-ranked Oklahoma City University competes in its first spring tournament of the season in the Ottawa-Arizona Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Wigwam Golf Resort.

Oklahoma City earned victories in two of its three tournaments during the fall. In their last outing, the Stars took the Southern Plains Intercollegiate by a whopping 29 strokes Oct. 28-29 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City. OCU collected the win against four top 25-ranked squads, including Texas Wesleyan, ranked No. 3 in the top-25 coaches' poll. They also won at the 12-team U.C. Ferguson Classic, and they finished second at the prestigious Mid-Couth Classic.

Led by new coach Andy Crabtree, OCU has three players who rank in the top-15 in the NAIA in scoring average. David Meyers leads the Stars and ranks sixth nationally with a stroke average of 71.18 strokes per round. Meyers is scoring below par, on average, on both par 3s (2.91) and par 5s (4.92), and he has made two eagles and 46 birdies on the season. Carson Seals is just behind Myers with an average of 71.50, and Seals is tied for fifth in the NAIA with four eagles so far this season; while Peri'Don Castille scores a 15th place standing in the NAIA with an average of 71.78.

Oklahoma City is the winningest team in NAIA history, with 11 National Championships as a team - coming in 2001, '02, '03, '04, '06, '07, '10, '12, '13, '16, and '18. In addition, OCU has boasted five individual champions at the NAIA Championships. Oklahoma City has been in the NAIA top-25 for 124 consecutive polling periods, the longest active streak in the NAIA.
