Softball Picked Second in SAC Preseason Poll

Stars Selected Behind USAO in Coaches' Ballot

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Sooner Athletic Conference released the 2020 softball preseason coaches' poll, and Oklahoma City University finds itself tabbed second by the league coaches. The Stars finished the 2019 season second in the SAC, but the Stars advanced all the way to the NAIA World Series championship round - and OCU forced the if-necessary game before being eliminated as the National Runners-up in 2019.

OCU received one of the nine first place votes, amassing 57 points and finishing seven points behind the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, who earned 64 points and eight first place votes. The Drovers won all four regular season meetings between OCU and USAO last season, but OCU won when it mattered most, ousting USAO 1-0 in the SAC Championship game at Ann Lacy Stadium on May 5.

Behind OCU, Mid-America Christian University racked up 46 points to finish third in the poll, four points ahead of fourth-place Texas Wesleyan University (42 pts.). Southwestern Assemblies of God University (fifth, 36 pts.) narrowly edged out Oklahoma Panhandle State University (sixth, 34 pts.), while Langston University (seventh, 20 pts.), Central Christian College of Kansas (eighth, 15 pts.), and Southwestern Christian University (ninth, 10 pts.) rounded out the poll.

The regular season standings will determine the participants and seeding for the 2020 SAC Softball Championship, which will again be held at Ann Lacy Stadium and Bill Smith Ballpark from April 30-May 2. The winner of the conference tournament will receive the SAC's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship opening round, to be held at campus sites from May 11-13, and the winners of the 10 Opening Round brackets will advance to the NAIA Softball World Series from May 21-27 in Springfield, Mo.

OCU's season gets underway on February 7-8 in Fort Worth, Texas, as the Stars will open the campaign at the Cowtown Classic. For all schedule related information, including dates, opponents, times, locations, and live coverage links, please visit the softball schedule at www.ocusports.com.
