OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's softball recruiting class includes Shelby Cornelson, Amy Crabaugh, Kelsie Delap, Lexi Duff, Sarah Fisher, Brooklyn Mason, Mallory McCoy, Taylor Pike and Nicole Robinson.
This latest group of Stars has compiled a list of accolades including winning the state championship, becoming an all-state selection, taking junior college all-American honors and the state junior college player of the year.
Oklahoma City (61-8) finished as national runner-up in the NAIA Softball World Series for the sixth time with its 19th Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship. OCU owns seven 60-win seasons and 10 national championships.
Cornelson led Tuttle to the Class 4A state championship as a senior. She was a pitcher for Tuttle.
Crabaugh joins OCU after becoming an Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Association all-stater, three-time Oklahoman big all-city choice and all-Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference performer at Edmond North. Crabaugh's sister Mindy was an all-American softball player and brother Cody was an all-American baseball pitcher for OCU. Crabaugh's father is Denney Crabaugh, who has guided OCU baseball to 1,499 wins in 31 years.
"That's all she's known for her whole life is OCU," Denney said of Amy. "She's made every trip to Lewiston. She's watched Mindy win a national championship here. I think she's excited about the tradition of OCU softball growing up with it. She said it's the only place she wanted to go. I'm happy I'll be able to walk across the street and watch her play."
Delap took all-conference honors and Dallas Morning News player of the week playing for Allen, Texas. Delap, an infielder-pitcher, helped Allen reach the postseason for the first time since 2005.
Duff set Ardmore's strikeout record while becoming district player of the year and defensive player of the year during her Oklahoma prep days. Duff spent one season playing for Oklahoma Baptist.
Fisher reeled in NFCA Cal junior college all-American honors as well as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and California Community College Athletic Association player of the year acclaim playing for Palomar (Calif.). From Vista, Calif., Fisher hit .484 with eight home runs and 55 RBIs last year and finished her junior college career with a .540 average, 25 homers and 132 RBIs.
Mason carried a .401 average with 26 RBIs and 17 stolen bases while helping North Central Texas to the NJCAA Region V Tournament championship game. Mason was two-time district defensive player of the year during her Oklahoma high school career at Lone Grove.
McCoy took all-conference honors during her Oklahoma prep career at Mustang High School.
Pike comes to OCU, where her brothers Chris and Garrett pitched for the Stars. Chris Pike threw a perfect game and no-hitter in consecutive starts and was eventually drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays. Pike hit .387 with 18 RBIs as a freshman for Southampton High School (N.Y.).
