Olowora dominates at Friends Invitational

Senior from Lagos, Nigeria, earns spot in NAIA Championships

WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University's Aminat Olowora led the Stars with a first-place finish in the Friends Invitational on Friday afternoon at Adair Austin Stadium.
Olowora, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, took first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33 minutes, 33.33 seconds to hit the automatic qualifying standard. She broke her school record by 1:20 was set in the NAIA Championships last year.
The time Olowora ran last year took the national title by 1:26. Olowora's time would rank 40th among the men's times in the event this season.
Also turning in top-three finishes for the Stars were Sheridan Hoyer and Natalie Dryden. Hoyer, a junior from Poteau, Okla., took first in the 800-meter race with a 2:15.49, which was good enough for the B-qualifying standard and Dryden, a freshman from Christchurch, New Zealand, finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:23.77.
Tyler Berge, Kassidy Williams, Anna Palacios and Alexas Vargas also competed in the 5,000-meter race. Berge, a senior from Enid, Okla., had a time of 19:17.64, Williams finished in 19:23.98, while Palacios, a senior from Greeley, Colo., crossed at 19:25.91 and Vargas, a junior from Terrell, Texas, finished with a time of 19:48.47. Delaney Mayo, a junior from Edmond, Okla., also ran in the 800 meters finishing with a time of 2:23.76.
OCU competes next Friday at the K.T. Woodman Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
