OCU holds second place in SAC Championships

Three Stars hold positions among tournament top 10

AMARILLO, Texas – Oklahoma City University held second place after two rounds of the Sooner Athletic Conference men's golf championships Monday at Tascosa Golf Club.
Oklahoma City, ranked second in the NAIA, sat 10 shots behind third-ranked Texas Wesleyan in the team race. Ty Stites served as the Stars' ringleader with a tie for third place.
The Stars produced a 289-293–582, while Texas Wesleyan compiled a 284-288–572. No. 20 Wayland Baptist (Texas) put together a 297-291–588 on the par-71, 6,805-yard La Paloma Course.
The conference championship will be decided in the final round 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tascosa Golf Club. OCU will seek its fifth consecutive SAC title. Texas Wesleyan is looking for its first SAC crown.
Stites turned in a 72-71–143 to be four shots back from leader Victor Miron of Texas Wesleyan. Stites, a sophomore from Sallisaw, Okla., knocked down nine birdies.
Peri'Don Castille and Jack Madden also provided OCU with top-10 showings. Madden, a freshman from Dungannon, Northern Ireland, Ireland, delivered a 74-72–146 to be tied for seventh. Madden sank seven birdies. Castille, a junior from Dallas, posted a 72-75–147 to hold ninth place. Castille accumulated six birdies.

OCU's Carson Seals shot a 71-79–150, which tied for 14th place. Seals, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., drained five birdies. Castille and Seals led Oklahoma City by making par 22 times each.
Brandon Strathe, a sophomore from Owasso, Okla., collected a 78-75–153 along with five birdies. The Stars entered Niccolo Nespoli (80-81–161) and Sam Simonsen (86-76–162) as individuals. Simonson dropped in four birdies.
The field of 39 golfers contended with consistent 20-25 mph winds and temperatures that spent much of the day in the mid-50s.
