OCU repeat in four, eight races of Head of Oklahoma

Stars take seven gold medals Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University came away with victories in the men's collegiate four and the men's collegiate eight in the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta on Saturday at the Oklahoma River.
The Stars collected the Ronald J. Norick Cup for taking the eight head race for the fourth year in a row and the William Schnittman Cup for winning the four 2,000-meter race for the fifth time in six years.
Oklahoma City grabbed victories in seven events, four in head racing events and three in the night sprints.
OCU wrapped up the men's collegiate four by finishing the event in 14 minutes, 26.27 seconds. Andrija Simeunovic led the crew in finishing ahead of Texas A&M.
The Stars reeled in the men's collegiate eight race with a time of 13:59.73. Wichita State came in second in the event.
In the men's collegiate novice/freshman four race, Oklahoma City won by clocking a time of 16:35.04. The Stars beat out Oklahoma State for the victory.
OCU's men's open eight crew turned in the winning time of 14:41.24.
Under the lights, Grace Keen from OCU captured the women's open single petite final. Keen's time was 2:00.99.
The Stars snagged the win in the men's collegiate four night sprint. OCU crossed the finish in 1:26.00, while the Stars' second crew finished in 1:40.58.
In the finale of the day's racing, Oklahoma City finished with the top two boats in the men's open/collegiate eight. The Stars covered the 500 meters in 1:25.61, while the second OCU team finished in 1:40.58.
The Head of the Oklahoma Regatta concludes with another day of racing starting 7 a.m. Sunday on the Oklahoma River.
