OCU's Madden wins Ottawa-Arizona Spring Invitational

Madden claims first career win

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Jack Madden of top-ranked Oklahoma City University shot a final round 66 to reclaim the top spot on the leaderboard and earn his first individual crown of the season Tuesday afternoon in the Ottawa-Arizona Spring Invitational at the Wigwam Golf Resort.
Madden, a freshman from Dungannon, Northern Ireland, Ireland, finished the tournament with a 68-73-66–207, seven strokes ahead of OUAZ's Hector Barnetche, who posted a 72-72-70–214 for second place. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, took first after finishing with a 285-283-285–853.
OCU finished 21 strokes ahead of Morningside (Iowa). The win was OCU's fifth of the season and first of the spring portion of the schedule.  
With the win, Madden collected his second top-five finish since placing second in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate on Oct. 30. Madden sank an eagle. David Meyers, a junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, finished in a three-way tie for third place, shooting a 72-68-75-215. He has placed in the top 10 of all six tournaments this season. Meyers buried two eagles.
Carson Seals, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., tied Meyers for third place for the Stars after shooting a 72-68-75–215. Four strokes behind him was Oklahoma City's Peri'Don Castille, who took 12th. Castille, a junior from Dallas, turned in a final score of 75-75-69–219. Castille was one of six players to shoot a sub-70 round in the tournament. Castille had an eagle.
Also competing for OCU was Sam Simonsen, who finished with a 73-74-75–222 which placed him tied for 20th.     
Temperatures began in the high 40s and rose to the high 60s with light winds with gust up to six mph. The tournament played under clear skies all day Tuesday with no precipitation.
Oklahoma City returns to the course on Feb. 11-12 in the Houston Classic at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
