OCU cheer takes first in Spartan Showcase

Stars' pom/dance team placed thrid

ST. LOUIS – Oklahoma City University's cheerleading team finished in first place and the Stars' pom/dance team took third in the Missouri Baptist Spartan Showcase on Friday at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
OCU ended Friday's cheerleading competition with 85.93 points, 2.7 points ahead of second-place Missouri Valley. The Stars earned an average score of 86.93 from the three judges, but lost 1 point in reductions.
In the pom/dance competition, Oklahoma City posted an average score of 67.17 from the three judges and had 2.5 points in reductions. The Stars' final tally of 64.67 points clinched third place, 8.23 points behind first-place Baker (Kan.).
The 2019 NAIA Competitive Cheerleading and Dance Championships will be hosted by St. Ambrose on March 8-9 in Davenport, Iowa.
The Stars have won NAIA cheerleading titles in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and own nine National Cheerleaders Association titles. Oklahoma City's pom squad has captured NAIA titles in 2011, 2013 and 2014 and four National Dance Alliance crowns.
