Three from OCU men's soccer named scholar-athletes

Brandon Hull became a three-time NAIA scholar-athlete award winner.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Brandon Hull, Alex Gang and Tyler Morrissey of Oklahoma City University were named NAIA men's soccer scholar-athletes, announced by the NAIA recently.

Hull, a senior from Yukon, Okla., and Morrissey, a senior from Edmond, Okla., became three-time NAIA scholar-athletes, while Gang, a junior from Seoul, South Korea, was honored for the first time.

To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must hold a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point-average and be a junior or senior in academic standing.

“I am always proud of what our girls and boys do in the classroom,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said. “I think they typify what a student-athlete is all about in the way they represent OCU.”

Gang has a 3.95 GPA while pursuing a degree in business. Gang was also honored as a third-team college-division CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine academic all-American. He scored 22 goals and recorded 46 points during his junior season. Gang was named Sooner Athletic Conference offensive player of the year and a first-team all-conference selection.

Hull has a 3.70 GPA majoring in biochemistry. He was also named a CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine academic all-district selection for the second year in a row. Hull scored one goal to go a long with two assists this season for the Stars. Hull recorded six goals and seven assists during his OCU career.

Morrissey has a 3.82 GPA in psychology. He played in three games as goalkeeper for the Stars in 2009, recording two saves.
